For Dumble builts I've seen a consensus on the forum that the majority of amps (if not all) should always use metal film dale rn65d (new production) or mepco/electra (nos) for the plate load rated at 1/2W
I was speaking to an amp tech who said I may have plate resistor blow outs in the future and he would recommend 0.75 or 1W at least
Ive been through the layouts, schematics and BOM os several ODS at TAG and noticed all use 1/2W and mainly the rn65d (2nd gen, 3rd gen, #124, etc). The Tweedle is different and uses CF
The only exception I've seen are the FETs which sometimes go to 2W
I am curious of what is everyone's experience and opinion in this regard
Thanks

Re: [Question] Dumble plate load 1/2W
FYI, most layouts have errors on exact resistor types, Alexander built amps in which the MF plate loads were not mil-spec RN65, 183 as one example and he built amps with CF plate loads. Three documented amps here at TAG doesn't define the definitive BOM's of maybe 300 amplifiers.Bombacaototal wrote:For Dumble builts I've seen a consensus on the forum that the majority of amps (if not all) should always use metal film dale rn65d (new production) or mepco/electra (nos) for the plate load rated at 1/2W

Will a .75 or 1W resistor hurt no, but I don't think I have newly built or vintage amplifiers with 1/2W plate load resistors that are waiting to "blow out" either. Every tech has an opinion, but some never read datasheets or understand circuit analysis.

Re: [Question] Dumble plate load 1/2W
The other question is...what 1/2W part? some manufacturers cut corners...either resistor manufacturers overstating the parts capabilities, or amp builders not understanding voltage ratings for resistors, etc.
or combinations thereof.
