I have wondered about shaping/contouring the OD channel by using a James Tone stack which can be dialed to a "pseudo mid-boost" or mid scooped almost similar to Fender. * see attached screen shots demo'ing this.
I'm wondering if the ability to add or lessen mids in relation to treble and bass might allow someone to dial in more smooth and/or more crunch?
The SSS-001 seems to use low and high pass filters. So, I am wondering if this might do something similar?
I was thinking about building this on to a dual gang 250ka pot & trying it out? I am aware of the loss of gain using a James tone stack. However, I usually use 5751's in the OD and hardly ever have the 100ka pots dialed beyond 5-7.
Anyone tried this? And if so, did you like it?
Thoughts about this as an idea?

Re: Another OD tone stack idea?
I had a thought like this the other day. It seems like it could make for some interesting tones but I'm an amateur and have no idea how it would work in practice. I played with TSC and was able to get a little more gain out of the tonestack without doing anything too funky to the controls.

It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them

JDOxO,
I've used James Tone stacks in numerous amps and like it. Just never thought about it before in the OD section of any Dumblish inspired amp?
Yes, you can lessen the insertion loss by using those values you posted in your screen shots. However, your example has the pots at different settings.
I was trying to come up with one that used a single dual ganged pot where the treble and bass are turned in simultaneously at the same settings.
When you try those values in a dual gang pot, it throws the evenly mid scooped or mid boosted response off.

I use the James Tone stack after the O/D section. Gives great versatility as you describe with flat response as needed. I use high value pots so that I don't load the anode so much ...and the loss is less also.

No gain...no pain!

I tried the James tone stack in the OD. It was not useful to me & I am going back to the pseudo 5E3 type tone stack.

Thank you my friend for thinking outside the box. Then testing your thinking.10thTx wrote:I tried the James tone stack in the OD. It was not useful to me & I am going back to the pseudo 5E3 type tone stack.
