Sharing B+ with D'lator

Post by Luthierwnc »

I'm fooling with the design of an '80's voiced amp and would like to have a matching D-loop with reverb. The PT I'm using has two HV secondaries designed to run concurrently. The higher of the two will be for the amp but the 275-0-275 would be great for running the outboard device.

If I didn't need to mess with a power trannie, I could get the whole enchilada in a single rack system. The donor, a Hammond 100E, actually used the main PT to drive the outboard units and still has the plug. My concern is that it was designed to be connected once -- not subjected to the rigors of set-up and tear-down.

I'll experiment with the design but if anyone has any ideas on jacks, sockets, etc that are safe, please post them. I have also wondered if I should rectify and filter the first stage and take it out as DC or leave it as AC. Also, if you want to talk me out of this, go ahead.

Thanks guys, Skip

Make the externals permanently attached to the main. Like a sub box off a breaker box. Use conduit to connect the pieces.

Thanks,

A permanently connected set-up would be pretty cumbersome. If I go with this project (there are two in the running), I'll just use a separate power supply with a 2U height box. There seem to be lots of old computer boxes these days that will do the job -- some already have 12v supplies.

Good soldering,
