Looks great!

That's pretty much the same, how I am using mine - a booster and a touch of Hall of Fame reverb (TC released some Robben Ford tone prints that sound exquisite) :)
There must be some globally similar tone chasing line with this amps.

Now lets get back to the saw and make me some very DIY looking box for it...

I forgot to mention it, I'm also jumping the channels, which really gives it some girth. I used one of the raw cabs from eBay with some Home Depot stain/seal on it.

Your clip has both volume knobs all the way up, correct? Where is the volume on your guitar? I agree with you, I would expect much more gain due to the design and the 12AX7 up front. Hard to tell without being in the room, but my stock 5E3s, with 12AY7. have much more gain than that. Mine definitely hit that ZZ Top thing right on the money, but I'm hearing quite a bit less than that in your clip. Is that your impression, or am I off?

Forgive me if I've just missed this with my searches...

I've seen layouts for tweedle Dee deluxe, but not schematics.
It's the schematic here somewhere?

Schematics are here, but they should be in the files section, IMO.

He's looking for the schematics, but you could comment on the post 4 above this. :D

You're right. Sorry about that. Someone should take the time to post the schematics over there as well. I'm not going to bother -- 400+ downloads on the layouts without a single comment tells me that it probably isn't worth my time to do anything more on this one.

Guitar vol was on 10, I believe. In the room and "in feel" there is a lot of gain. For some reason, that gain didn't come through very well on the recording. In fact, one of the first things that I thought to myself was that the recording was pretty "flat" compared to how the amp sounded and felt when played live. That being said, it really comes alive with a boost up front to get V1 really cooking.

FWIW, I haven't downloaded the layout, but I spent some time with it. No feedback from me because I am modding a PPWATT PCB. I do appreciate your effort, though. Thank you.

It is sometimes hard to capture the essence of an amp with a mic...at least for me. So, it has more gain than is apparent in the recording. That's good to note, but I guess I'll have to ignore the clip. :P It sounds nowhere near as good as a real 5E3 IMO.

Depends what you're looking for. It is tough to improve on a classic. That being said, if you're judging amps by my crappy recording technique & playing, you're probably doing yourself an injustice. If I had recorded a real 5E3 the same way, you would probably prefer something else.

Late to the party in this thread, but I find Tweedle D very usable amp, albeit different than the original (wasn't this the idea?). It doesn't have a clean sound even to the half of the volume level where 5E3 sounds clean.
Drive is quite a bit more and I like it better than 5E3, but that's personal. YMMV.

Great amp and I am glad I built it.

One of the bad ass sounding russian 6V6s went south taking the first power resistor in smoke (was quite spooky experience in the dimmed room :) ). Changed that and it's alive again :) Did a test jam to a youtube backing track https://soundcloud.com/synchu/pop-rock-ballad-jam with low output PAF style humbuckers and to my ears it has more than sufficient gain. Added benefit of great dynamics. For the lower volume parts of the backing I don't touch anything in the set-up, just pluck with a light touch and it sounds almost clean. Lovely.

Sounds great, what method did you use to set the PI pot? also was your build from the layout drawn by CW?

Cheers

Thanks. Yep, it is Charlie's layout. PI has been adjusted by ear. I posted the build in a separate thread, just chiming in on the gain discussion, but it is always personal perception as usually, so grain if salt implied.

Just finished my second Tweedle Dee. The left one is 15w with a 5Y3 and Jensen P12R. The right is 20w with a GZ34 and WGS ET-65.
Haven't had a chance to crank the 20w up yet cause it's midnight here.

Might have to build an amp switcher to compare all three:)

Thanks again to Charlie for the info.
