SSS Chassis Size???

Post by marshamps »

What's the correct size for a SSS Chassis? I see some members are using the ODS 19" chassis, but i May do a dual front end and add OD to the basic SSS clean. Also, if there is a supplier that does one or two at a time....
My Dream amp a ODSR/SSS in one!
Thanks,
Mike

There is no one chassis size, it depends on the model and the number of switches/knobs on the front. That being said, look at the pics and size it by the number of knobs. The largest SSS' were 26.5" wide. Mayers was smaller because there was no FET Gain and no Presence (but there were some extra switches, which take less real estate than knobs).

There are several chassis sizes, front panels, tube complement, etc... There are several layouts in the files section that are different as well. This is a bit of a moving target. No one has settled on a single approach to building the SSS. I suppose you are shooting for a blank chassis? That would be an item that could work as a product.

Thanks guys. I think i may just look for ODS style chassis but 21.5" wide, so i can build SSS and ODSR type amps.

Mike I doubt 21" is long enough to include all the features your talking about.

My SSS is 26" and has step filters but not OD and it is the perfect size.

My John Mayor Two Rock clone is shorter and tough to get everything in there.

26" x 9 X 2.5 for the SSS and the ODSR. It would be nice to have a chassis that could do both.

If to are doing the Dumble boards you need the room. If you are going for Hartman's layout then 21.5 could work provided that you don"t use sprauge filter caps

I used 22.125" for the one that I built.

I measured an old ODSR chassis I bought from a guy Pakistan years ago. It measures 24 3/8"x 8 3/4 x 2.5". I think that should support an SSS and possibly an added OD circuit.
Thanks again folks,
Mike

...or you could go for broke and do a full size 26.5" chassis (like SSS05). My latest is full size & 150w.

Full size chassis' are HUGE. After I built two I redrew layouts to fit in the Reverb size chassis.
Nice build though, any chance of some info? :D
