What is the ideal depth for a dumbleator chassis?

It really depends on your specific needs... if you're building in a 1u then I think 11-12 inch is pretty standard.

The key thing is the power transformer.
Whether or not it will fit inside or on the back like the original.
The PT from Allen Amps reportedly works well.
