New Lindy Fralin Dumble (Skyline)voiced PAF

Post by talbany »

Hello All
I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone might be interested in this?
I am working with Lindy to design a PAF style humbucker (Bridge position only) voiced for a High and low plate Overdrive Special..A pickup that's voiced to work well with the Skyliner Stack and well balanced on all channels (Clean/OD and Boost) for a Les Paul style guitar..I have the 1st prototype and we are working tword perfecting it and should be done in a few weeks.. I know there are many here who have been frustrated with getting a good clean and OD tone with buckers with these amps so this might be a good alternative..If I can get enough interest maybe I can get Lindy to give us a good deal on them..Let me know if any of you might be interested or have any questions/recommendations and I'll try to help out and make this happen..
When I get the final one finished I'll post clips and demos of the pickup in a Les Paul and give everyone the options that Lindy recommends...I am looking to keep these in Classic PAF form, enamel wire Alnico magnets un-potted nickel covers etc..

These will be custom winds and NOT available for the general public..Just for Amp Garage Members.

Thanks!!
Tony

This sounds like a great undertaking. I am definitely interested.
Hope it can be sent overseas...

Very interested. I've started a scratch build of a 59ish LP and have everything but the pickups. I'll document the build and post on TAG when I get a little farther along. This is too cool. Thanks Tony!!!

Cool!!
Right now we are experimenting with different type magnets and output

I want to get it in the general area where we hit the front end hard enough to drive the input and clean channel just at the verge of breakup (input vol around 12:00 1:00) as well as the right magnet strength to give it some chime and top end clarity.but not so much that the OD is harsh..I also want to keep the low end focused and still have it snarl on the wound strings in OD..It's all a balancing act and your guitar will no doubt play a role..I just want to try and get us as close as possible.. I have 3 three different ODS (high low plates)amps to test the PUP's through..I still want them to sound good with other amps as well and keep it in the PAF feel vibe..So it will be more like a PAF style designed around an ODS/Skyline style amplifier..Lindy's ears will also help no doubt!!

That's it!

Early '60's patent number pickups with the double black wires, wound between 7.6 and 8k with short A5's are as good as it gets for this. I love them!

His split blade design at 10% might be the ticket given the right tweaks
anyone have any experience with them?

Well I have his split blades in my Tele (10% over) and they do sound THICK! :) through the Feedback City amp and the Steel String Singer..Next time I meet with Lindy I will pull some different split blades (Strats) off his wall and and see if this might be an option as well..Good idea guy's.

I think Lindy's pure PAF standard 7.5kneck-8.0kbridge is the best sounding pickup with trainwreck style amps.
Not so long ago I also used my guitar with Lindy pickups and played a real Dumble and still it sounds fabulous. I would post a pic of that undocumented Dumble but the owner doesn't want any pics of it in the web. :)
I would still like to know specs of this amp garage pickups!!
