Who is "Lang"?

Post by FuzzFaceBuilder »

Hey all,

In the late 60's into the 70's HAD built a bunch of amps for a man who I've only known by the name on his amps as "Lang". If you look closely, the famous un-tolexed Dumble "Marshall" amp is named "Lang's Fang". He also had a Small Special 100 'Custom Built for THE *LANG*.' I'm sure there are other HAD amps belonging to him that we don't know about. But more importantly, who is Lang?

Here's to hoping!

This is another Small Special. Different than the one on Rob's amp index.

Here's the Livesey Small Special in it's new cab.

That's not the same amp. Indicator light is different, and also the font looks different.

Fun game, like photo hunt.

I hope I am not alone when I didn't notice the "Lang's Fang" name on that first Special we showed.

Interesting history behind that amp.

Hope it goes to a good home.

To whom it may concern, I just signed up for your forum, very interesting about the Dumble amp engraved Langs Fang, I owned that amp for many years.... Lang is a very close friend and ex bandmate. I was in touch with him yesterday, we have great stories about Howard Dumble in the early years, looking forward too sharing them,
Sincerely yours, Thomas E Van Horn

OK, here's the "Lang meets Howard Dumble/builds him Lang's Fang" story. Lang is my best friend, known him since the third grade and we are 65 now so...I KNOW him. Lang has played electric guitar a long time. When he was surfing one day back in the 70's at 26th avenue santa cruz he noticed a large man directing a guy with a pickup in dumping an amp off the back of his truck on to the ground in front of his shop. "Nothing at risk here-every soldier has to pay his dues" said Dumble while the amp hit the ground. He took it inside and soon got it to work. Lang saw that and said he wanted one of those. He went to Dumble's front door, knocked, Dumble opened and said "What do you want" Lang said I want one of those amps. Dumble said get the fuck outta here and closed the door. The next day Lang came back to Dumble's with 5 100 dollar bills and knocked again. Dumble opened the door and said"I told you to go away". Lang held up the bills in his hand and Dumble then said "Step into my office". The rest is history. Langs Fang was about to be born. The End.

That’s the story Lang always told me! Inspired me to always try to build amplifiers to hold up to abuse. I shared that story once before on the forum , so cool to hear it again !
