Humble Overdraft? Anyone built one?

Post by camarofreak »

Pretty straight forward post this time guys. Hopefully this thread goes better than my first one here  . Just curious if any of you fine gentleman have built the 1997 Humble Overdraft Specimen, and what it sounds like. Schematic looks too simple to sound like a Dumble  . ttys

Back in the dark ages, I built an amp with the "Hybrid Rev A" clean preamp, and the "Overdraft Specimen" overdrive circuit, along with a completely different power amp. I think it is pretty respectable, but the one time I got to hear it next to more of a true "clone" it was not in the same league. Musical and fun to play, yes. I am plenty happy with it but if I were going to build an amp now, with all the incredible info that is now available here on the Amp Garage, I would use one of those circuits...

Yes you can get a very robust OD bottom end by turning the OD middle control down. If that is what you are looking for and if you have panel space for the knobs, the tone stack is something to consider. I wired in the ability to switch the tone stack in and out of the OD circuit.

I built the Humble Overdraft Specimen back before I discovered TAG.
+1 on what pullshocks has said. I think that's a very fair assessment. Not a bad sounding amp at all, just not very accurate considering what we know today.

This was my starting point as well into the D amp thing. Of course, had to add a few things, just ot make it my own.

I just pulled that amp out of storage over the weekend. Been there for at least 10 years.
