Please explain "Ratio Control"

I know Dumble used a Ratio Control on some amps. I imagine that this is understood by most here but I would appreciate being pointed towards previous discussions about this concept and related schematics. The only thing I can find is that it's purpose is to feed a portion of the overdrive signal into the clean channel for the purpose of enhanced harmonics?

Its the overdrive output level, plain and simple. Yes, it's the 'ratio' of clean to dirty, and HAD (being how he is), likely wanted a name that was a little different...
