I bet i need to reduce the 1K resistor. I'll try the 470R tonight! Hopefully that gives enough to ground for the relay to trip.
man you'd think the footswitch would be the easy part!

There is not enough current flowing to pull the relays in, so you'll have to reduce the size of the resistors. Note they are only 150 ohm in ampdoc's schematic.

470R still didn't work...going down...martin manning wrote:There is not enough current flowing to pull the relays in, so you'll have to reduce the size of the resistors. Note they are only 150 ohm in ampdoc's schematic.

Be careful. I went down to 100R and after a few gigs the LEDS failedamplifiednation wrote:470R still didn't work...going down...martin manning wrote:There is not enough current flowing to pull the relays in, so you'll have to reduce the size of the resistors. Re: Footswitch wiring/LED's, like #183
That did it!
Thanks Martin and Bob.
I got a 470R and a 100R running in parallel for 285R and that is working now!
I'll see if i can find some 150R's here, I'm sure i have something close, if not i'll come up with something.
So why did Dumble do a 5 pin with leads running all the way from the relay power supply to the back corner of the amp if it's possible to just run the LEDs off the relays? Is it because it's easier on the diodes off of the 1K's?
Does running a 12V supply vs a 5V supply have any effect on how the LEDs behave?
And my last question is why isn't there a tag strip inside the footswitch to mount these components to? I can see the box getting dropped a lot and these joints failing....
Thank you for the help! This amp is complete!

470//100 is 82. I'd get that straightened out ASAP. If you know the current spec for the LEDs (doubtful if they are the ones that came with the switch box) you can check the current through the resistor to see if you are in the clear.
Wired this way the relays run on reduced voltage, but they have some tolerance for that. Dumble's way is full voltage and a lighting circuit failure doesn't take the relay out (Bob's experience), but it needs an extra wire. Dumble tended to go with rugged over cheap.
The Vox switch wiring (same as sepulcher describes) runs the relay on full voltage without an extra wire, but the relay and LED are out of phase, and some small current flows all the time. Continuous current flow is probably not an issue, since the relays can stand full current continuously, and the LED on can indicate whatever you like by rewiring the switching contacts. If the LED or resistor fail open, you still have relay function. Good and cheap?
You started out with the Vox circuit, but the relay stayed on regardless of the switch position? That would say the resistor was already small enough to pull the relay in.

Yikes you are correct. I think it was a little late to be working on footswitches last night.martin manning wrote:470//100 is 82. I'd get that straightened out ASAP. Maybe 2 x 390R? I have 100r but nothing in between.
I was thinking the same thing regarding the Vox scheme.
I'll take another look. Maybe I'll just replace the LEDs with values I can confirm

Ah, I bet that once you got the relay to pull in by shorting the resistor and LED there was enough current to keep it there.
2x 390 sounds good- 195.

Hey, you should be working on my cabinet, not messing with LEDs...amplifiednation wrote: Yikes you are correct. I think it was a little late to be working on footswitches last night.

Just to add what Martin said Taylor, a good rule to remember is, on parallel resistor circuits the total value will always be lower than the smallest value resistor.

I'm on it don't worry
Good rule Tom!
