od channel in 6v6 build sounds grainy

Post by Mainetone »

Thanks in advance for any responses ! So I built a 6v6 ods clone I used the dlite 22 as a guide for the build. I added the single tube reverb as well. The amp sounds great on the clean channel. The od channel seems bright and tin--ish so to speak. It doesent have the D style od more like an ocd pedal or jcm series marshall. I have experimented with slope resistor values and tone stack vaules. Im still missing out on the od sound.

I currently have apprx 183 volts on pins 1 and 6 of the od stage. I have the .01 and 100k I have 180k and .004 for the level and drive controls
2.2 and 2.7 with 4.7uf for the cathodes. I have tried numerous voltages on the 100k trim pot.

I have about 33ma bias on the 6v6's. for what its worth

If you are running 6v6s your bias should be 18-22ma. 33ma would be more appropriate for 6l6.

yeah, LP is right. But you should really measure Va and Vk, decide how much power you want to dissipate and then set the corresponding current. Anything else is a guess that may or may result in your target being met.

Some clips and pics would help. One man's grainy is another man's awesome.
