Noob Guide to Dumble Circuits

Post by fenderbender4 »

Hi, I am kind of new to dumble amps in regards to the tone/feel of the different circuit designs. Terms like HRM, Bluesmaster, Skyliner, etc. are unfamiliar to me in the context of what the tonal differences are.

I think I get the general idea of 70s vs. 80s where it's sort of Lindley vs. Ford.

Can someone provide some insight into the other terms or circuits out there?

I am also looking for a circuit version that can do rock music instead of the prototypical fusion/jazz thing. I really like the lead sounds I hear from dumble-esque amps I've tried, but am looking for something that is versatile enough to do the rhythm/chordal thing well.

I apologize for a possible repeat on the topic, but I had a hard time searching for a thread in regards to the more general tonal/feel aspects of the circuits for guitar players.

Appreciate all the help in advance.

The Amps technical info is in the "Dumble files" section

Caution, these amps are habit forming!

The Overdrive Special amp series is a very versatile amp since you can adjust the amount of gain.

They have very good clean tone as well as overdrive that can be switched back and forth on the fly with the pedal.
Also PAB (Pre Amp Boost) which bypasses the tone controls adds additional sounds.
Mid Boost is good for thickening the tone a bit.

I have tried several iterations of the ODS topology and I prefer the high plate skyliner style amps.

There is a vast amount of data on this site, you just have to do some prodigious searching. :D
