What about a Odyssey/SSS hybrid?

Post by stratpaulguy86 »

I've been bouncing around the idea of attempting a one-off Dumble inspired build for a while now. My favorite Dumble tones were from Eric Johnson back in the days when he allegedly used an old Odyssey poweramp into his SSS.

I've seen some of Aaron's great layouts for both SSS#2 and the Odyssey and was getting some inspiration to attempt something EJ-inspired. I think it would be cool to have both circuits on one chassic as a complete amp! Any pointers, info, advice, and/or pics of said circuits would be much appreciated. If anything ever works out and sounds great (gasp  ) I'll share everything possible to those who would also be interested in such an adventure. Thanks!

100w 4x6L6 Odyssey Power section
SSS/Odyssey Driver Tubes
SSS-style pre with reverb send/returns
6 position Hi/Low Filters
1/2 Power switch

I already have some ideas for a name: Austin Tone Ranger 100 or ATR-100 8)
Any ideas guys?

In a limited fashion, HAD already did with the Odyssey Special, minus the reverb.

If you wanted to, you could build a low plate skyliner with an expanded AB763 reverb into the AU7/BH7 PI/driver setup.

Fine tune the step filters from Aaron's layout and you're in business.

EDIT: Don't forget LNFB on v1b.

Hope this helps!

Thanks FFB! I've just been digesting the layouts for the last few days...definately more complicated than the Trainwreck and Marshall stuff I've experienced. Any reccomendations for iron? I'd like to get a few of the basic components and layout planned before really diving in.
