Which LEDs for footswitch?

Post by mlp-mx6 »

I'd really like two different colors for OD & boost, and ideally I'd have a 3rd one when OD is NOT on. For instance, clean mode=blue, OD mode=red, boost on=orange or green or something other than red & blue. If I can only use one color then there would be no clean mode LED. No big deal.

I've seen the chrome bezel one that Hoffman sells. Seems to only be available in red. I do like that bezel though. Does anyone know of a Mouser part that is similar?

What have you used in the footswitch?

Thanks, folks!

Mouser carries a XICON chassis mount chrome bezel.
MOUSER Part No. 351-1001 fits any T-1 3/4 size.

You may already know this, but If you want the same intensity from all leds, then pay attention to each LEDs specified Vf (forward voltage). Subtract the Vf from your voltage source, and divide by the amount of current you want the leds to run at. (15mA nominal). That will tell you what your current limiting resistor values should be for each led.

I'm a little confused about the LED issue. I figured if you wire the LED and a resistor across the footswitch that the LED would light up when the switch is open, then go out when the relay is activated.

I have a Marshall replacement 2 button footswitch. It works fine without the LED's but as soon as I connect them the relays stop working and I measure 7.9V arcoss the relay. I'm using a 12V regualtor on the supply.

What gives?

I had the same problem with Marshall footswitches. I ended up just wiring the LED in series with the switch. Works like a charm.
