You've tried other guitars right? When ever I've had that problem it was guitar wiring. I even had some moron plug a crackling bass into one of my hiwatts and blow it up :(

I've replaced all filter caps and its still barking...
also replaced loop jacks...Really wanted to find out what was causing this problem but I guess its time to gut it and start over.

You have already proven that the preamp section is good by playing through your other amp's power section. Therefore, just do the HRM's power section (which includes the P.I.). But before doing so, I would try replacing the coupling caps (only on the power section) first.

All the best.

Thanks alvarezh
replaced PI caps and no go... I hate do overs but will look at this as a chance to redo the lead dress better. Will report back ASAP

Thanks

Darin, Maybe try a different Master volume pot, before you redo everything.

that's a good idea...I did try and solder on the back(alpha) and it didn't take so I moved on .Wonder if I killed the pot in doing so.

Did you happen to measure each pot and watch the meter as you rotated them?

I had two (2!) bad pots on my new build.
They were NOS Allen Bradley too.

Watch the lead dress around the PI.

Yeah because one jumped from say 100K to 1M before it was even half way!
Anymore I measure everything before committing to solder.
