Non BM HRM Tunings

Post by ToneMerc »

Anyone have any non-BM HRM tunings off the beaten path that they enjoy?

Jelle, I think he means what other HRM configurations, other than the Bluesmaster are folks digging around here.

HRM's are not at all my prefered circuit but if I had to choose one, my fav circuit is the high plate Skyliner, HRM, with high voltage Music man transformers (100w EL34 config).

Of all the HRM's this one is definitely the most revealing of them all, with that said they take a bit of tweaking to get the HRM tonestack to not sound like its covered with a blanket.

This circuit is definily the most sinonomous with the "grail era" Violin like lead tones Dumble Overdrive Specials are most famous for.

Jelle I'm looking for for some different HRM voicing ideas that are not necessarily Bluesmaster or conventional higher plate based. Wondering if someone found something different that they liked.

A little out in left-field but I'm working on a hybrid 2nd gen/Hiwatt based EL34 (actually 6ca7) HRM;

https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=17434

Probably a few weeks out from any sound reports, but the last of my parts came in the mail today:D My prediction is that it will sound either really cool or have all sorts of problems that will take me just as long to sort out as it did to build it, maybe longer. I'm hoping for the first one.

Was kind of inspired by the Eric Gales 2rock prototype as far as functionality, but want to combine that with some of the earlier tones and have more of a hiwatt flavor than a marshall on the HRM. If I can tonally go from Jerry Garcia to Stevie Ray to Lowell George to David Lindley to David Gilmore to Tommy Bolin to Alex Lifeson all in one amp with some foot pedal dancing I'll consider the build a success...

Tone Merc

I would probably pull out Duncan's tone stack calculator and start messing with the various circuits along with tone stack calculator results.

It is a little random, but it is the path less travelled.
Yours Sincerely
