New Builder Needs Advice

Post by dragonbat13 »

I am getting into building tube amps. I am going to build a champ first. I am
also modifiying my Twin. I have two questions:

What is the best dumble amp to start off with? I play everything from jazz to thrash metal. I just want that dumble sound!

I have an Oscilliscope. I have no idea how to use it! Is there a website or book that can lead me in the right direction?

I already have torres' book "inside tube amps"

Thanks for all of your help!

I forgot to metion, I have a silverface champ 1975. Is there any easy mods to get close to the dumble sound with this amp?

Go for the D-Lite over on the files page. Excellent amp.

If you are not in too big of a hurry I'm going to be doing a couple of vibro-champ conversions within the next month and will be posting final layouts, schematics, clips and pics when finished and tested. The prelim is in the files section now, but I would wait until I make all the mistakes before you begin.

My amp is just a regular champ. Can I use it for the conversion? I would think it would be easier. I looked it the chassis and it is bone stock. The only thing wrong with the amp is that the grille was made out of particle board and had never come off of the amp. When I pulled it off it fell apart. I am going to make one out of birch plywood. I am unsure if I should mod such a clean amp or not. However being a 75 silver face I wouldnt feel as bad as if it were a tweed. I think I would enjoy the amp more with a dumble setup.
