My #124 build

Post by blowafuse »

Hi
First post after lurking.
Here is a build I did for a friend. Thought I should share as I used all info from here and perhaps for some inspiration for someone (or not  ).

Cost was an object in this build so I used mostly stuff that I allready had on hand. Chassis says Dumble which may offend someone but it was what I could get my hands on at the time.

Otherwise I used close to #124 cosmetics and 124 preamp circuit although later slightly modified.
50W fender bassman irons.

Inside during build early on (sorry no finalized pics)

The board was first intended for another chassis and was longer containing room for dumblelator circuit in the middle. Therefore it is cut in two parts here.

Outside cosmetics ( I built the head shell also)

Mods from normal #124 include another relay adding larger cathode caps in clean mode and a separate pre-gain pot used in OD mode (see FET-input hole). LNFB switch. Slightly larger anode resistors for V1a-b and some more slight differences.

Here is my friend just noodling some at first try after taking it home :)

Recorded with an Iphone so do not draw to much conclusions. Also I have no idea if this is straight in to the amp or perhaps some pedal in the chain.

Peace,

:D Because it *is* a Steel String Singer amp built by me. In addition, I do want to show that this is a design by Dumble instead of repackaging a great sounding Dumble desing and advertise it as my own design. I personally do not think that would be fair. But we are getting off topic.

I just wonder why people use some one elses name on their own builds instead of their own. Using someone elses name does not do the builder justice nor the person whose name is on the amp. All IMHO, of course.

And IMHO, the build itself looks nice enough to be proud of. 8)

Spot on :D

It is infact a chassis from ebay seller noojwut. I needed some other parts from him at the time (to restore an old vibrolux etc) so to save costs for my friend I took the chassis from him for combined shipping.

The chassis came allready with Dumble printed on it. I think it is possible to remove the name and screen paint somthing else there. I will probably do it if my friend allow it but I have not had enough time for it yet.

Shure Structo. These are the pictures I have now.
Next time I get it in here for some tweaks I will take some more pictures and do an update about details.

There is a lot of recycled parts in there. Almost all switches and screws came from an old electron microscope.

Also I have another similar build in the pipeline. I ´ll try to do a more bit by bit description of that with pictures as the build goes along.

Cheers :D
