It was hard to resist. But having been ridiculed by Billy previously for my southern accent, I figured I could just have the satisfaction of knowing he is wrong from afar.

Honestly, it makes me respect Alexander more. There are so many boards out there that are pretty much "cult of personality," and Billy even condemns Dumble for being a marketer. Never really seen Dumble "market" anything.

Dumble's body of work speaks volumes, without the wide stance or sparkly guitar.

Billy has built his own amps since back in the early X days. I wonder if his comment may have more to do with the fact that he has a very expensive signature guitar made by Fender (Gretsch)...

"The FET input goes to that vertical card on the far left. It's a solid-state fuzz pedal mounted inside the amp."

I don't care if he built Rome. This is just wrong on so many levels.

This is his statement that implies that other than possibly 2 others beside himself we"re not worthy - in context a previous poster had asked him if anything new could be done with tube design -

I mean... i dont usually participate in your threads but i do my reading on this forum almost in a daily basis. I can tell you this: I am enjoying the heck out of reading that gretsch forum thread about dumbles. It made me laugh a few times.

Just one thing, that Billy Zoom guy is an idiot. Period.

If he his one out of two guys in the world that can build amps then we should all cut our wrists and blead to death.

I think i'm gonna jump into that forum too.

Man that forum has a lot of idiots.

Now a TAG member Wiredturtle is slaming Dumble guys while he sells Fender clone amps and pedals. He actually thinks he is Brian Setzer.

I don't know why people are getting so worked up over there. I read the threads... I think Billy is oversimplifying the whole thing with the "one cap change"... all the guitar amps have some DNA from someone elses ideas/concepts. I thought the tone stacks on Dumble amps shared some common elements Fender???

At any rate. I don't think it's worth signing up and posting rebuttals on that site. If they want to trash talk Dumble and Dumble inspired amps, let them.... It's not going to change the sound of your amplifier if they do. And it's not like there is a shortage of people ready to talk smack on the internets...

As far as the misinformation goes... Kaiser's youtube videos were probably the worst PR for Dumble amps than anything else. No offense, Kaiser, if you're out there... but the experimental stuff on that video just doesn't make people want to buy a Dumble/clone. I'm all for experimental music, and odd note choices, but it seems that video series has created a bit of a fissure in the Dumble armor.

Yeah, it isn't worth the wasted breath to even respond to those idiots.

I got used to all that Dumble bashing on The Gear Page long ago.
For some reason it really riles some people up when you love a certain tone or amp.

I didn't even remember who Billy Zoom was, I had to look it up.
Some has been band that I never heard of.

He's just jealous that one of his amps would never come close to fetching what a Dumble will get.

Yeah those Henry Kaiser videos, were something else.
You have to consider the era that they were made, along with Howard's groovy crystal lattice statement, that it was just to keep the mystique up.

I think Howard is a pretty smart guy.
If he fell for the bait and started posting on the internet, the mystery surrounding him would fade and he would just become like all the rest.

As it is, he will remain an enigma.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

I don't care how much a guy had to smoke or drink that crap Henry Kaiser was playing and trying pawn off as music was disgusting.

Hey guys I'm roadjunkie from the GDP and I just want to state I'm not coming over here to cause problems. In fact I hope for just the opposite and gleam a lil knowledge my way. Still I wanted to post my last response from on the GDP over here as it seems we are being cast as a bunch of idiots over there. All I can say is so what! We don't all get Dumble over on the GDP. Myself I'm just fine with my Tophat Ambassador 50.

There's a lot of good things going on on that forum I would invite you all to stick around and find out for yourselves.

Roadjunkie Please Please..Prove me wrong!!

Fred it's not my intention nor desire to prove you wrong. You are totally entitled to your opinion as much as I am. My point is this was a dead thread from 6 months ago. A question was asked of BZ and he answered per his experience. You seem to have a problem with the responses given in the thread 6 months after the fact. As a result your folks run over here and yell bullshit and on your forum refer to us as a bunch of hillbillies with a wide stance and glittery guitars playing recycled rockabilly from 50 years ago without knowing what all this forum is about. There was a slam on Tavo because he builds a version of a Bassman clone and his pedals which he doesn't hide what they are based off of. No one here said Dumbles were junk. What they said was they are not what they are cracked up to be. I hold that true for Dumble and a lot of other amps. That's all that's been said. Billy stated he was asked to repair some bad solder joints under vast amounts of goop. What he saw was a blackface Twin. I wasn't there to confirm nor were you there to deny that statement. It is what it is! All I ask is that before you label us nothing but a bunch of hicks find out who and what you are talking about. There's a lot of world class generous people here (I'm not one of them) Anyways there's a ton on innovation and talent that graces these pages. I invite you to stick around and find out for yourself. You'll quickly find out we take care of our own.

I'd venture to say that BZ probably looked at the controls, and what he saw of the circuit and made a quick assessment. Let's be honest, if it had everything in common with a twin besides one capacitor, we'd know about it. Dumbles have been dissected, categorized, and reimagined here in more ways than I anyone could hope. Not to mention some of the world class amp builders that grace this forum and interact in a "peer" like fashion.

If it's not your thing, that's OK. But this forum and I'm sure the GDP forum is full of great people. And they're human... and make mistakes. Even BZ might make a mistake or two. At any rate. We're not hoping to convert your thinking on Dumbles. But I'm glad you're here and being civil about this whole thing...

 Billy don't make mistakes! according to Billy. No really he's a valuable resource on the GDP and willing to help any and all. He is terse in his answers but that doesn't always go over when people don't get him.
