ODS (124) Speaker jacks

Post by gary sanders »

I am putting an extension speaker jack on my 124.I dont plan on running an extension without the main speaker.Whats up with the shunt jack used on the main out?Is there a reason for this or is it ok to use two normal jacks?

The premise is that with nothing plugged in, the main jack will shunt the OT secondary to ground. It's better to be shunted to ground than left open without a load. After I had an issue with a SC shunting jack I went to using just 2 reg jacks.

What do guitar players do when no sound comes out of their amp? They max the volume(s) and thrash - the shorting jack keeps the amp from arcing the tube sockets (and damaging tubes, transformers etc etc) for the 5 minutes it take for the user to realize he didn't have a speaker connected. Unfortunately it doesn't work in a combo style amp when the disconnect is one of the terminals on the speaker
