Tweed OD Plus

Post by 10thTx »

In an effort to return the generousity of this forum, I thought I'd share these D-style inspired ideas for consideration.

Other than the TS1 & TS2 tone switching idea, I have built all of these ideas into one amp or another.

However, I have never done both a OD and PLUS style design with two different OD channels.

There are two "Plus" drive designs. One with 12AY7 and one with 5879.

CHECK for ERRORS!

Looks like fun. Do you plan to do the switching with relays or on the panel? I've really enjoyed the 5879 design you pioneered on the Hoffman board. Thanks, sh

If I get around to building it ....... the clean, OD, PLUS & PAB would be relay switched.

Yes, 120k is correct on V1-1.

As I remember, that came about by accident.....When I built my Tweed Bluesmaster, I reversed the V1A & V1B plate resistors by accident, making V1A 120k & V1B 150k. I realized my mistake & rewired them "correctly", but actually liked the "reversed" tone better, so I put them back to "wrong".

Tubenit used that V1 configuration for his original Tweed Overdrive Special (TOS), and I guess it has just stuck thru the different variations of the design(?)

What kind of tone does the 5879 bring to the table?

It has more chime and some fatness that I don't hear in a 12A_7.
