Mini HRM /86 Special - the finishing touch

Post by rogb »

Well I finally got around to adding the finishing touch to my amp, which I refer to as my Motel Mule, like the rest of the amp, a homage to the big fella and his work and aesthetic. The finishing touch being the diamond cloth :D

Now it finally looks complete, I know it isn't millimetre perfect but I will adjust soon enough, I'm just so happy to have my vision finally fulfilled. I looked at loads of Dumble amps and combos and this now has elements that I like from a lot of them.

I can tell you, trying to track down diamond cloth in the UK was very hard, but as usual, and as history often tells us, the boys from over the pond responded :)

Taylor Cox and Amplified Nation got me an off cut - only needed 15" x 15" - and mailed it to me - all in a few days and for a few bucks. Great guy - lucky USA having people like that.

I am playing this amp every day now, through the Dlator, and loving it. Now I get to enjoy looking at it too, thanks to helpful members on here :P

Thanks, that's very kind of you all :)

It really is a worthwhile project, but maybe I would up the chassis size a little to give you extra options and the room to carry them out as it sure is cramped in there

What about an 86 Special w/ reverb? Has it been done?

Very few folks have actually built one, AFAIK :D
I think you would be struggling to fit it into the 12" chassis. If you up the chassis size, why not? It would be nice to have everything on board.

I am quite happy with the basic fx loop and Dlator/TC G# combo for reverb.
Other players who have played my rigs have been positive too.
