Any reason some of these D mods can't apply to a SFSR?
I was looking over these at Schematic Heaven and was thinking about applying one to my SFSR. Many of the cap values in mine are the same as a Twin shown in the drawings. Any reason these would not work as shown?

Man, I don't think I would mod a Super Reverb.
I'm never in favor of that unless the amp is a basket case and not worth anything.

It's a 70 watt UL that has some mods on already. I want to let it be all it can be. It sounds very good, but has not yet reached its full potential.

Re: Any reason some of these D mods can't apply to a SFSR?
I've got a Super Reverb chassis converted to a Vibroverb (the amp was a basket case) and I'm getting ready to do these mods on the normal channel.
Frankly, unless the amp is in collector's condition, I have no problem doing fully reversible mods like these on the normal channel. The normal channel isn't useful for any good reason if it just mimicks the Vib channel. If you mod the normal channel and tie it to the reverb (which will change the channel to be in phase with the Vib channel), you can use an A/B/A+B pedal to change between channels and/or use them together as a footswitchable boost. Sounds like a win-win to me. Just save all the parts if your amp is remotely collectible (heck, save them anyway and put them in a baggie in the back of the amp for some future owner).
Regards,
Mike

Yeah that's killer, but I'm looking for upgrades I can do myself that might make it better. Who knows - I might change it back to it's NOW MODDED STATE. You know - the one that SOUNDS VERY GOOD. Aren't we all pushing the envelope? If not then why are we here? To have a SAFE time???M Fowler wrote:Check out this Super Reverb conversation.

Linking that Torres shit in my thread was a real boner IMO - you by passed my whole question and lost some cred IMO. Did you even look at those drawings I linked - or was that a hey - "lets make a joke on . . . . " - knee jerk reaction?

You'll quickly find that while we look like a civil group of people, we are really a bunch of bastards and whiny dicks.mike9 wrote:Yeah that's killer, but I'm looking for upgrades I can do myself that might make it better. I didn't know this was a forum for Pro's only. At least when I joined it wasn't - I thought it was a place to learn.
I would put the amp back to stock and work forward from there. Have you heard it unmodded? Maybe start by reversing the mods and doing small tweaks at first. When I'm starting a new design, be it a tube amp, discrete transistor/op amp or IC design, I start with the simplest circuits and evaluate their performance before deciding what needs to be improved. Once you do this enough you can skip the "foreplay" and move on to the bigger, badder circuits. But without a good ground reference (no pun intended) you're sorta shooting in the dark. If you've played a dozen different SFSR's then you probably know what you want/need to upgrade, but it doesn't sound like you know what you want yet. I'd figure that out before doing too much tweaking on the amp.

Re: Any reason some of these D mods can't apply to a SFSR?
First off I apologize for being ticked off - tough day yesterday. When I got the amp it was a basket case. The prior owner tried to Blackface it and failed. The mods done so far are minimal, but it sounds very good as it is. I'm looking to put a little more juice in the normal channel really that's all. Those seem like simple, easy improvements to make.
When I retire in a couple of years I'll have time to absorb more of this stuff. My work involves wearing many hats. And I work at a college with students many of whom unfortunately don't want to learn anything because it means putting their phone down and here I am wanting to learn as much as possible.

Wow, I think Mark was just being humorous when he posted the Torres schematic.
There have been pictures of Torres modded amps here and they looked like a nightmare.
I believe Mark was aiming his first post at me.
Sometimes emotions don't translate on the internet but I can understand having a bad day as well.

Re: Any reason some of these D mods can't apply to a SFSR?
IF you really want to learn may I suggest you grab a piece of paper and pencil and sketch out the normal channel and post it here (so we know what mods have been done).
A discussion will start and guys will offer suggestions on which simple components can be tweaked for your taste. Most likely a few plate resistors, coupling caps and cathode r's and c's will get you there.
Adding a little resistance between the mid pot and ground will get you that "little extra juice" too. You can bypass the resistor with a small c to thicken things up.

Yes I have seen those mod drawings before and they have been discussed her on TAG before.
I think the original meaning behind Fuck You is hello Charlie so I say hello right back at you.
I find it funny that people ask what should I do with my amp? First you need to know what it is you want out of your amp then look at other schematics and layouts to see if it would work for you.

You were just handed a gift - heisthl does the Good Stuff and shared his schematic. How are we to know what you can or cannot do yourself? Mark, sorry that your cred was damaged. I hope you can recover soon.
I've also heard that Midol is effective for times like these.
