At the very least we can see that there's a SS rectifier plug-in and some sort of pot/selector switch on one of the four RCA outs under the chassis. Just more to speculate on I guess.

The first place to start with modding a Bassman is the power supply, (experiment with filter caps to get the right combination of sag versus headroom) and then I'd try the Dumble tone stacks.

I'd imagine the Bluesmaster tone stack would work a treat in a Bassman. The other two tone stacks would be interesting too.

As far as extra drive goes, do the Dan Torres mod where you feed one pre-amp valve into the next one.

I hadn't taken too much notice of the photo. Two valve covers do look longer, but one of the valves might be a EF-86's too.

A 12BH7 would be overkill for a PI.

Those look like all 12A*7's to me just getting rid of the spring loaded shield on V1 and replaced with a military style to minimize vibration. On my old vibroverb at high volumes I would get a sound like a tube going bad (a weird distortion/feedback/grunge outside of what was being played) turns out it was the springs in the fender shields acting like a little microphonic reverb spring.

Wish I still had my old bassman, been thinking seriously about converting the bandmaster head I built over to more of a bassman with TMB and long tail PI.
