My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Hi guys,
This is about a recent amp that a friend of mine did for me. It is a D-clone with a Bassman OT and Vibro PT (both Hammond trannies). It has tube driven (12AT7) reverb, resonance, and that 100K trim pot in regular D's is put outside, sort of a drive shape pot. (Hence, Rev. Bumble... I find it a bit funny... hope that you don't find it silly... anyways...)
The controls are: volume, bass, mid, treble, drive, level, presence, master (front) reverb, resonance, drive shape (back). It has a bright switch and boost. The channel switch and boost can be engaged via a footswitch.
Am loving my amp more and more each day. Just wanted to share some pics and vids that I have done, in order to get your feedback...

Am using my Duncan antiquity neck HB in this one... In the following, I am using the same guitar but the bridge, Hamel STD-A...

And using a Mesa V-Twin as its preamp, the thing sounds as follows as a power amp... The pickup is a PATB-3 in the next one...

Looks great!
And most importantly sounds good too!
Are you in Istanbul?
How is sourcing components there?
P.S.
What does the resonance control do?

Thanks... For the time and comments.

Yes, am in Istanbul. Getting the parts isn't that difficult over here actually. Bought them all from tube-town.de, Germany. Hammond trannies and all... Getting Heyboers is a bit difficult though.

You came to the right place if you want to learn about the various Dumble amps.

Re: My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Am aware of that.
Resonance is sort of a "presence" control for the bass side. Generally it is fixed on the board, but in this one (having a Plexi clone with resonance and loving it) we decided to get it outside and variable. Am very happy with the results.

Great playing!
Really enjoyed listening to the clips. Something different amongst all the Ford-style clips
Cheers,

Re: My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Sounds great. I'd turn up the od part though, it gets a little low in the mix. I tend to do the same thing. The od always seems louder to me while I'm playing.
Re: My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Thanks. Appreciate your time and comments.
Indeed, I have recorded the whole thing in one take (not the first one though
). I mean the switch from the clean channel to the ODS + boost was done on the fly. But when I was doing the mixing it turned out that what I heard was not right, in the sense that the ODS part was much louder. So I had to cut the file into two in Cubase, and decrease the second parts volume a bit... Maybe I did overdo it... Will be checking it.
Best,
B

Re: My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Guys,
Am very glad to hear these. Over here getting hold of good Dumble clone is next to impossible. Of course, a real Dumble is out of question. Thus, hearing these comments (and that my amp does not suck) makes me real happy.
(In fact, I have tried a Dumble ODS like 10 years ago in Willies, St. Paul. Very close to my place (BTW am a UofM alumni), and I am sure some of you folks know the place. Loved that place. But back in those days it was all Marshalls for me... Bought and sold some amps from and to them, including a 74 Marshall 1987 and a very clean Fender Blond Deluxe, and I wish I kept them... Anyways, I remember that when I was trying the real deal Dumble over there, I did not grasp and dig into its interactive controls... Definitely my bad. Wish I could try one now. But, because I can't, this forum is the right place! Anyways, just wanted to share.)

Re: My recent D-Clone: Rev. Bumble
Yesteday, I did some recording on a backtrack with this amp and my PRS McCarty (bridge position, Duncan Brobucker). It's all the amp all the way through half of the clip. Then I am stepping on my chorus (AnalogMan). Recorded with SM57 (off axis) and EMU1616m soundcard. The effects are from the soundcard (EMU PatchMix DSP).
