Twin Reverb mods?

Post by stratcat62 »

Hi,
Are there any mods one could do to a Blackface Twin Reverb to give it more of that smooth, singing Dumble clean tone? I'm trying to get that Steel Singer-esque tone. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sell the Blackface on ebay - use the money to buid a clone and take a vacation. If you can't do your own build, many on this site will build you one.

Funny you should ask now. I've been experimenting with this on a Super Reverb clone. I've been fairly successful too.

I took the normal channel, stripped out all the components and built the OD side from the tube, a few of the grommets on the fiber board and a terminal strip. I used the 3 holes on the front panel for drive, ratio and master controls. I then modified the vibrato channel with a change in the mid pot, and the addition of a series resistor/bypass cap on the grid of V2b. The result is good, not perfect yet but it's getting there.

I don't know that I'd do this to a vintage BF amp though. My amp is a Weber kit highly modified already.

You could do something simple, like this...

OK, just kidding. But it IS doable.
