This may sound strange, so I will just say it like it happened...
I came across a pair of output transformers, still new sealed in the box, from another commercial amp builder. This guy has been in business a long time, and had these hanging around that he purchased from the original maker. They are Peerless 16747 output transformers. Spec sheet says 140W output, push-pull, 2.2k primary, dual multitap secondaries for 2,4,8,16ohm. Huge, they clock in at 24lbs each.
So what? So... the sheet says they were made for Howard Dumble. Does anyone know if he had plans for a 140W guitar amp? A hifi amp perhaps? A bass amp would be more like it with these... I was told they could easily handle 200W at 30hz, overbuilt like mad. M3 laminations, teflon wire, powder coated end-bells, brass hardware. Not 100% sure what to do with them (do I keep them uninstalled for some future sale, or go nuts and build a 140W Dumble?) I would really like to know what Howard was thinking... 24lbs just for the output transformer is not something you throw in an amp without good reason (cost, practicality, etc).

Those sound like the Steel String Singer output transformers.
I would probably sell them on ebay.
Imagine how much those are worth!

At 24 lbs they could be 300W OTs with 700V on the plates and six KT88s, for a guitar or bass amp.

Yes, I have some A451s. These are... more substantial. And the 451 is no laughing matter. 240W at 30hz. I use those for bass amps.Roe wrote:the a 451 weights 23lbs. the SVT ot has a 2k primary z
Re: Dumble 140W output?
my take: two transmitter RS1003 tubes, in push pull, anode voltage cca 500-550V, only one problem - sockets

Way cool 300 watt D style amp, So the guitar can keep up
With a Drummer like me. I make the bass player use my Eden WT-800c
Bridged to 580 watt's RMS @ 8 ohms with BAG-END cabs.

Quit using the SVT 1970 it takes a man and a boy to move it.
The Eden is 27 lbs.
