SSS transformer set?

Post by Mark »

I was wonder what people are using as a transformer set and what are their thoughts on the resulting amplifier?

I suppose my curiosity comes from typically using small wattage amps and trying a Twin a couple of years ago. The extra headroom was great for extra dynamics.

Four 6550's would typical kick out 120 watts, I think I'd still notice the increase in headroom. I think HAD did this to a ODS amp at one stage.
That would be one big sounding ODS!
Yours Sincerely

Try a set ( for no double driver) of a Orange Mk 120. Mercury Mag has them, they were also used in Electric amp . Use ta build for them, 500vdc B+ GREAT tone! We used KT-100 power tubes, pretty close to 6550`s,

Original Tungsols can handle higher voltages OK. The Tungsolski reissue does not like 500V I have heard, or high currents.
