What do you use to stake the eyelets into the board?
The staking tools that go with these are high priced.
My latest tool is 4" of 1/2" threaded rod ground to a 45degree conical end, flat at the other end.
I tap the eyelet until nearly level, then finish with the flat top end of a punch.
With practice, takes about 15 seconds.
Put your board on a piece of soft wood so the the top side of the eyelet doesn't get flattened.
I tried the drill press method but I found it not to be so precise, I think I have a lousy drill press...
If your going to make your own boards get the tools. I didn't find them to be that expense? And use the drill press or ask around for a junked out one with burnt up motor.
I agree to getting the right tools to do the job. However the 41 dollars for a basic staking tool to to mount the eyelets seems excessive in price. If you go to mouser website and plug in 534-46 then pull up page 1964 you will see the basic staking tool and price.
I already have a staking kit for hoffman turrets but want to try eyelets this time.
[rogb] So you flare out the bottom of the eyelet and then round it off with the bottom side of a punch? interesting Can you snap a picture of both side of one of your boards? Also are your eyelets in tight using this method?

Hoffman do one for $6, you might be able to see where I got the idea from...
cost = zilch
I'll do some pics when I build the board, just waiting for my Mouser order to arrive from the USA.
In the meantime, I've been drawing up the faceplate and cutting out the cab parts from 15mm birch ply.
Eyelet staking tool $9.95 it has a special flaring on the bottom that rolls the eyelets over.
The other part sits in the staking tool holder which I agree you can make that using a bolt.
I have included a pdf that shows you how to make your own tools for DIYers. See the appendix area in back.
