50 watt switch or Bias T.P.'s?

Post by ER »

Is there a good way to do both? Does anyone use the 50 watt switch or is MV enough for everyday situations? Putting the final touches on my schematic before moving to layout on a 100watt EL34 amp.

Also anyone driving el34's with a 12at7 PI?

The difference between 50W and 100W is 3dB so I'd say the 1/2 power switch is kinda useless. The difference between 50W and 100W is more of tone/feel thing anyways (lots of threads on this).

Bias points are very useful would defiantly add.

I have a half power switch, lifting the cathodes on 2 output tubes, on a
100 watt ODS. I find it quite useful. The amp is usable as a home amp,
with a D-lator, at half power. As for stage use, half power is a pretty loud amp by itself.
Full power is a huge amp, really loud. Also a very different feel to the amp.
I have used it mostly at half power, and find that is plenty for most
situations.
