He makes a comment late in the interview that was funny.
"People say it sounds like Eric Johnson, well of course it does!"

Don't let that smoke out!

Joe is a fun and easy guy to talk to I hope he makes it back to my town next August for the annual blues fest.

I'm getting a little fed up lately with him keep rushing out albums with scant regard for the quality of the recording itself and, even worse, the quality of the songs themselves.

Every album up to and including Sloe Gin has been fantastic. Then, seemingly 10 minutes later, we had The Ballad of John Henry which was really hit and miss in terms of the songwriting. And not 5 minutes after that we got Black Rock which was can best be described as dire, with the one exception being the country song (and that's a Leonard Cohen cover).

And every week I get an email with the latest Joe B signature something-or-other. He's got more endorsements than Eddie Van Halen now, which must be great for paying the mortgage, but you can't help feeling that it's coming at the expense of the music. And there's just no excuse for issuing a Joe B bobble-head!

Dust Bowl is going to be the first album of his I listen to before I consider buying it, but I am at least hopeful.

Paulster,

I don't like all of his music, especially Ballad of John Henry and most of that whole album.

He doesn't have his own style which is probably one major problem.

Now he is in a group, so we'll see how that fairs.
