The regulaor is a 7812 and the relay's are 12V I think I found my problem. The relay winding is 6.3UltraHookedOnPhonix wrote:Questions with regards to your Relay problem:
What type of Voltage regulator are you using?
What are your relays rated at, 12V?
What is the blue/red twisted wiring that stretched from the Vreg board to the other side of the chassis?
What is the green wire that grounds in front of the Vreg?
Suggestions & other questions:
Check polarity of diodes in Voltage doubler for Rly pwr.
Check that you have a good ground where the Vreg grounds.
Where does pin 3 of your 5-pin DIN jack ground?
The Vreg filters should ground with the Voltage regulator and not with the power transformer.
Try bolting down the voltage regulator. Right now it looks as if there are wires underneath it.

Is this a #124 amp, look at the 7812C regulator close on #124? Triple grounded.
And slide switches are wired opposite of toggle switches.
I used the same power transformer and it worked great for the 12v relays.

Re: 100 watt build
But the 6.3VAC is rectified and voltage doubled in your build, so you should be seeing somewhere around 18V on the input pin of the Voltage regulator. Must be something else. Measure the outmost pins on the regulator and tell us what you get.leleduke wrote:The regulaor is a 7812 and the relay's are 12V I think I found my problem. Re: 100 watt build
Triple grounded, how so? I don't see a mica spacer so it appears that it's grounded only at 2 points, the mounting tab and the regulator center leg.67plexi wrote:Is this a #124 amp, look at the 7812C regulator close on #124? Triple grounded.
If by chance the output is shorted to the chassis, it would not have an output because the thermal protection will shut it down.

Re: 100 watt build
Does the regulator need to be double grounded??? I have it grounded to the terminal strip only.
Re: 100 watt build
No, it doesn't have to be. I generally either float it when mounting it vertical or use the mica spacer and bushing when attaching it to the chassis.leleduke wrote:Does the regulator need to be double grounded??? I have it grounded to the terminal strip only.
Re: 100 watt build
I"m getting 17VDC on the left leg and 0VDC on the right. Bad regulator????
Re: 100 watt build
Yes, make sure, when replacing, you got proper ground or you will smoke it.leleduke wrote:I"m getting 17VDC on the left leg and 0VDC on the right. Bad regulator????

Re: 100 watt build
Its working now thanks. It was a bad regulator. It needed the extra ground like you all said. I think I like the non hrm distortion better but you can't beat the bluesmaster clean.

Re: 100 watt build
So the extra ground acts like a heatsink

I used a drill.mcinku wrote:That's some tight wiring on the HT...
