I'm not sure I get the flux density argument though. Are you saying that for the same piece of iron
Of coarse not..unless you use 50w iron on a 100w amp
0ne- More IRON=Less saturation

There is a large difference in feel IF you are looking for the more muscular sound, the paralleled output tubes seem to do it effortlessly. Most of the reasons have been stated already.

KOC details these differences in his TUT 3 with the plexi 5100 amp, an amp that sounds like a 50 or a 100 watt amp, but is only a 50 watt amp. There was a lot of interest over on powerscaling.com to build this amp, unfortunately it took on a life of it's own and dragged on. (IMHO - It needed a generous guy like RJ to offer a chassis / kit / transformers / direction etc to make it fly and to generate interest.)

FYI, KOC sells a "transconductance multiplier kit" or Gmx kit. I know a lot of techs have installed and built this into their smaller amps with great success. Maybe Steve, "renshen", will elaborate about this. I believe he has experimented with this as well. A great way to get "that sound" without the extra tubes / heater current requirements.

Good luck.

Hey call me the skeptic in the room here but adding such a mod without an output transformer upgrade I have my doubts about it feeling the same as adding 2 tubes and larger iron..I have never heard one of these so I could be wrong..BTW where do I place my bet..

No offence John..

Hey Tony, definitely no offense taken. I was just throwing that info out for discussion. I personally have not built the "GMX" multiplier, but remember the discussions of the guys who used it and liked it over on powerscaling.

I'm just a guy (like a lot of us here) who carried around 100 watt heads and 4x12's in early 80's and am looking for that tone and feel in a smaller, lighter package now.

Take care.

Sure.. I totally get the appeal there a cool concept for sure..Feel can be just as subjective as tone IMO.. If you do install one please check back in and let us know what you think..

Take Care!!

I've built a few 4x6V6 amps and they sound "faster" and more responsive to me. One in particular was an early 4x6V6 D'Lite Bluesmaster with 35watt output transformer. Some of the brassiest sounding overdrive I've ever heard. I never should have sold that amp because I've never been able to build another quite like it.
