Ford tones from the D'Lite?

Post by Mark »

I was wondering if any of you have tried to modify your D'Lite amps to deliver more Robbin Ford like tones?

I don't believe it is simply a matter of copying mods from his 100 watt amp into the D'Lite. There is a scale issue as well component issues.

Love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
Yours Sincerely

I always thought that D'Lite with a bassman PT, a big OT, 6L6/5881 tubes, and a G1265 can get you quite a bit there. The right chops, and a good instrument do quite a bit of the heavy lifting..........

I havent played a D'lite, so I don't know just how far it actually is from producing a RF sound as is.

However, a IMO a key ingrediens in getting a RF sound, stem from the high frequency roll off, that a dumblelator gives. I you don't need effects you can easily reproduce this roll off by soldering a 300p-400p across the input/ground of the OD master vol pot.

AND having the right guitar, speakers and chops

Hello Mark.

As a slight detour, did Moss ever "dig up" the info about the D'lite fonts you asked for?

The reason I ask, I asked for the specs on the BlueMonkey88 transformer, and got the "I'll have to dig them up" answer.
I believe I'll have to find out elsewhere...

Dear Bob

This may not be the answer people will want expressed, but it is the truth. I did receive a reply from Moss regarding the font information and he told me he didn't remember.

I end up going with Eurostyles extended font on the Dumbleator and didn't try to match it up to the D'Lite. We then agreed to make it look like a real Dumbleator of sorts. It looks neat, but it could never pass as a Dumbleator.

I hope that helps.
Yours Sincerely

I don't mean to throw a wrench into the works here, but Robben Ford plays Fender amps when on tour,so getting Ford tones means playing like him through whatever amp you have on hand.
His Dumbles are not that much different than the D'Lite so with the right touch it's totally feasible to get his tone through other amps too.
It's more than 70% touch IMHO.
Crystal latice or vacuum, that is the question.

True true, but most of us are not Robben Ford not even close, well maybe Dogears is close, but most of us just try to ride RF's cut tail......so we need all the (dumble) help we can get.
