D'lite el84 project

Post by Matrix The Warrior »

Hi everybody!!!!!!!! I'm new on this forum and I'm trying to make a Dumble Clone...so I found a very instresting project https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... dlite+el84 (without Dumbleator)........At this moment I've got a VOX AC15 clone and with this project i can save all my tubes....but my question is: can I obtain the Dumble sound using EL84 instead of 6L6?????

Bye

Most of the goodness happens in the preamp and cascading gain of the two preamp tubes.
So even though it may not have the same body or tonal characteristic of the 6L6 it may sound just fine.

Only one way to find out.

You don't see many dumble - clone or original - amps with a tube rectifier, if any. I would convert to diodes in order to get a stiffer power section and poweramp response.

Like Tom said, the Dumble tone happens in the preamp section, so poweramp coloration is usually not preferred. That being said there is a difference between the sound of power amps based on 6L6, EL34 or KT88/6550 - I prefer the latter.
