That is a nice-looking conversion.

Looking at this MkIII some more, I think I would have to do something a lot like one of heisthl's ultracompact layouts. More or less leave the MkIII's tube locations where they are, sort of fold the preamp tube wiring forward to go between pots and board.

[That Smith fella can cram a lot of function in a small volume. I've seen inside a MkIV and those are _scary_. I'm afraid to look inside a MkV or a RoadKing].

The Electrodyne has like 8 preamp tubes...and it's scary. the MK-4 is marginally servicable...if there's a problem on the board, forget it...

Here's a Rivera...same issue.

Had to replace a filter in a Mk4. Did it from the top of the board - clipped the leads of the busted cap and tied the replacement into the stubs; followed with a slathering of RTV under and to the neighbor. Left it as serviceable as I found it, but didn't even _try_ to get the board out.

aw man i didnt realize it was a head.Im waniting a combo version of a MARK series.Short on room and trying to get rid of a 4x12 as it is.But they are great amps Id definitely start from scratch instead of gutting it for a clone, unless you fry it like I did my x100 combo and thus the ODS clone was born

OTOH, I see Boogie combo cabs, unloaded, on eBay for not much, and then you get to go for whatever speaker you think perfect - a 120D or a Greenback or an EVM12L ...

I wouldn't rebuild a MKIII myself as I dig them as they are, especially with simulclass.
Dude! Where did you get that BIG blue metal film in HRM from? I have some of those from AIKEN amps, use to chat w/Randall back in late 90`s! They do snd GREAT! Nice build, am i diggin radio shack coax? I use it to!

I have a mk3 combo that i rebuilt into an ods---but it was a fair bit of work because of the layout, but the work was worth it---

Did you keep the M/B tube locations, or do a radical repunch?

Noticed this MB chassis is/was a 50-w. If it were a 100, it would be a different story btw...
