There's an incentive for you. Put all of the smokes money in an amp and/or vacation fund and enjoy the fruits of your health kick!Structo wrote:I should take some of the money we would have spent on cigs and make an amp fund.

Thanks ER and Mike.
Every day I feel a bit better.
Quitting the cigs is rough this time for some reason.
Trying the Chantix drug for the urges. It gets a lot of props from people.
I guess if it doesn't make you crazy it helps you quit smoking.
Gawd, you should see all the pills I have to take now...............

Tom,
don't focus your mind on what you lose by kicking away, focus on what you will win.
Day by Day!
Hour for Hour!
Imagine a life in freedom.
And you will win. "You will"!!
I know this smoking hell very well.

Bets wishes Tom. I'd be careful on the exercise advise. Everyone means well, but I'd follow your doctor's advise on that. They know the amount of blockage that you have and stents have limitations on what they can accomplish. No smoking and proper cholesterol meds are the obvious things and I'm sure you are already pointed that way.

Re: Tom (Structo) Get Well
I'm doing fine guys, thanks for all the well wishes.
What a great bunch of guys we have here!
I only have a few urges to smoke during the day now and I can easily ignore them.
I will go back to the cardiologist for an echogram in six weeks to check how much heart muscle was damaged.
I feel pretty good, no telling how long those arteries were getting clogged.
Even though I am a tall skinny guy my cholesterol has been on the high side since I've been an adult, so watch those numbers guys, it can really bite you in the ass.

Re: Tom (Structo) Get Well
Glad to hear that you are doing better Tom! My wife is a physician and I often listen to her continuing education tapes on my long morning commute. The last one was about cardiac health and the main point they made was that people need to keep their numbers in line with current recommendations regardless of anything else. Apparently skinny isn't a get out of jail card as many have learned. They also pointed out that diet and exercise can only make a small dent in your numbers compared to meds. Looks like genetics are a strong determinant of what your numbers are whether your run 10 miles a day or not. My skinny, non smoking dad had a heart attack in his early 50s so it's no surprise that I need drugs to keep my numbers good in spite of being 6ft and 154 lbs. Smoking makes the liklihood of a bad event much higher. We probably all know someone who has been smoking forever that is old and seems generally healthy. My guess is that they have something genetic going on that most people don't have. Everyone should have their numbers checked and treated if needed. One bit of good news here is that 2 glasses of red wine every day seem to have a positive effect on cardiac health. That doesn't suck!
Re: Tom (Structo) Get Well
my best wishes and prayers for a good and fast healing Tom, take care!
