You really have to be ready to quit.
Not only will they kill you, they're as expensive as hell.

I smoked about a pack and a half, give or take, the wife smoked about 1/2 pack a day.
So a carton every five days or so.
They cost around $48 a carton here.
Madness!
So figure over $250 a month.
$3,000 a year!!!!

That would build a couple very nice amps.
Hmmmm, now I know how I can convince my wife I need another amp!

Some places like New York they are $11-14 per pack!!!!!

Don't let that smoke out!

You're totally right!
It's ridiculous how much money we spent for getting sick.
For me it's even more ridiculous since I don't even like the taste of cigarettes. In the end it's just a habit, a nasty one...

I'm not over weight so I have that going for me.
Working on amps and playing guitar isn't a very good workout I'm afraid.
You haven't built a 100Wer yet though buddy. You just wait, that's a fun project to move around. I'm like you, 6'3" 180ish lbs, moving my 100W ODS gave my arms a real workout. They use some serious iron.

Glad your feeling better.

Been out of town for a couple of weeks and just heard about this.
Just got my Dad back out of MD Anderson in Houston. I think this experience is all i need to finally quit smoking for good.
Glad you're feeling better Tom!
Good luck and Godspeed.

Heheheh, yeah I know but that pertains to the magic smoke inside an amp.
I'm sure you knew that.

Funny the things we abuse our bodies with.

Whoever thought of burning tobacco and inhaling it?
Stupid!

Now, in my younger days, and it was houch (panama red), I'd say to hold it in to you pass out.

Blame it on the Pilgrims :)

Yes smoking is a heavy deal to stop. Heroin is easier to get off of, they say. Just a drop of pure nicotine would kill you. Strong stuff.

I have quit a couple of times, once for 5 years and a couple times for a year.

Sunday we make the big move to Denver. So being higher in elevation will help inspire me to want to breathe.

Of course since they have MMJ (medical weed) in Colorado, the smoking substance could change........... knowing me on that stuff, I would solder my fingers together.

Anyway, since the manufactures of Cigs put so much extra crap into the tobacco to make it burn even, and taste uniform........now "Uncle" has them put a substance to make them go out if you set them down lit.

Great, to not waste them burning away in an ashtray........only to poison us some more, with a hundred more compounds............... intentionally.
All of the added compounds make the tobacco a guarantee for trouble, I believe more so than just the tobacco. Nice of them, huh?

I was tempted to grow my own tobacco because of the additives. Silly.

Sorry to disappoint you!! I'm seriously thinking about changing my username. When I chose it, I was totally ignorant that some people refer to HIM as DRd. I am still quite embarrassed!!!!

guitardude57,

Isn't it odd that the cigarette companies are not required to list the ingredients in something that is consumed?

Does our government still subsidize tobacco growers?

I sincerely believe that they put something in the light tar cigarettes that are addictive, to keep you hooked.
One story I remember reading said there were over 1,000 additives in the tobacco of light tar and nicotine cigarettes.

The cardiologist prescribed Chantix for me this time.
I still want a cig!

I can be pretty strong willed when I want to be so I know I will quit.

What's crazy is, my wife and I had quit a few years back and were " clean" for 9 years!
We got vulnerable at one point in our life dealing with a stressful situation and succumbed to the habit again....

Anyway, as I have said, if your cholesterol is high, you smoke, you are out of shape or over weight, middle aged, please take a hard look at your life and ask yourself, do I want to live?

that is a life statement, also what do I have left to do and see
smoking is a hard thing to quit.
I'm in the middle of it now (last one was Sat. morning 6-26)
I "quit" for about 8 months but slowly came back
the battle goes on

my beer cost also went way down
My wife agreed to monthly "hobby money"
after similar numbers came up in our budget 8)
great incentive
we have most likely lived more years than we have left
(sorry if I offend)
so lets get some cool builds going!

Hmmm, that gives me an idea.
I should take some of the money we would have spent on cigs and make an amp fund. :D
