What transformers to use?

As I understand it, the above schematic is more or less a D'Lite.

Are the values above with Dogears changes a good way to get the Robben tone? Which era?

I have an early D'Lite (kit build) and think the trannies are made for 2x6V6. I use 6L6 for 33W. To get most out of this amp I think I need to change the trannies for 44W. Which readily available iron do you recomend for this amp?

I know he's used a lot of BF Fenders through the years.
BIG difference in tone between TTYD/Blue Line nonHRM-tone to later HRM tones.

Scott, I'm surprised you didn't also recommend changing the 100uF first stage caps to 220uF, (even though this is only a 50W amp). FWIW, I ditched the 300R resistor in favor of a choke and changed the 100u caps to 220u on my D'Lite and it really tightened up the amp for me (gigging volumes, classic rock type stuff). That amp is a high-plate with the standard Brown Note transformers (~450V on the power tube plates).

Whoops.... Did not notice. You are correct. I like that change. Actually two 150uf caps works well with the 50 watters.

Now, here is a curve ball- what If I wanted to do a 4 6v6 style? Would the PT/OT make a difference?

Still waiting on a response for this, I would really like to do a 4x 6v6 thing w/ tube recto.

Could I theoretically use a 40w power and 40w output?

I've built quite a few of these.. Our Rick Derringer Model HRM has them..
We use a 50w Mercury Mag Marshall style OPT and Fender 50w Bassman power.. There is nothing like them when you can push them... SING!! like a bird..
But if your chasing the RF tone I would stick with the 6L's..Keep in mind if you do decide to do 4X6v's using the Bassman power you have to use the JJ 6V's as these can take the 450V...You would be surprised at how loud a 4X6v amp can get (450 on Plates Zing)..If you decide to go there PM me and I'll be glad to give you some other tips on setting up the amp w/ 6V's
The other cool thing is you can pull the 4 V's and stick in 2 6L's or 34's or 66's... Wired right of coarse..

I'm with Tony on Bassman iron for the PT(even though he was commenting on 4 x 6V6). Don't have tons of experience with different OT's but, had good luck with Prosonic-like output transformers on a couple builds.

Here's the trannies I use for my D'Lite. An early kit and made for 6V6 I hear. Any ideas? MM are too much $$$. Maybe Heyboer has some bigger ones.

The OT is a Vibrolux made for 2x6V6 at 22W or 2x6L6 at 33 watts.
