50W El34 Non HRM clip

Post by Blindog »

After a recent tweakfest with my Bassman10 ODS conversion, I think I really like El34's.

After I reworked the output section to take the EL34's, I added a choke, took out the treble bleed, removed the .02 cap on the OD entrance, and went with a 250k Level. Also went with a 30pf Master bright cap. Pretty much ODS-101 elsewhere.

Amp settings are as follows (clock settings) V 10, T 10, M 11:57 B 12:03,
Drive 12, Level 1, Master 1, Presence 12. D-Lator in the loop, but effects added after. Cab is Thiele with an EVM12L. I have the guitar volume down a bit for the first 12 bars, then wide open. Amp settings stayed the same. Guitar is a PRS Singlecut.

The backing track is simple slow blues in G I found somehere. I'd like to get hold of some better backing tracks for sure! Where do you guys find the cool tracks?

Anyhow, please excuse the clams, and any suggestions/comments for further tweaking appreciated! One thing I'd like to try are a pair of KT88's. I'm getting about 503V on the plates with my old Fender PT.

Thanks,

Mark

Very nice tone. I've also been looking for some good backup tracks.

Really nice sound and playing. I like the smoothnes of the sound, good balance. What pickups You have on the PRS and which one was on on the clip ? What delay unit did You use ?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Thanks for kind words guys. The PRS has '57/'08's, and I was in the bridge position. The delay and verb were added in Pro Tools LE, I forget which plug in. I had the D-lator in the loop though.

The recording setup was an EV ND267 dynamic mic on the 12L, and for grins I decided to throw a small condensor on the port of the Thiele cab. I was suprised by how much that added to the track.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Mark

Wondering if anyone can give some thoughts on a couple things. In the OP I stated I changed the OD Level pot to 250k, just because I wanted some more range on the level. At the same I took out the 150k that fed the pot based on some info from other posts. I also tried a 33k there as well. I a/b 'd it several times and preferred it with it out. I guess I'm just wondering if that affects the OD performance.

I'm also itching to try some KT88's in hopes to get a alittle more girth so to speak. Some of data sheets I've seen have the screens over 200 volts lower than the plates. One example was 560v plate, 300v screens. Is that what I should have with Kt88's? My screens are just a few volts lower than the plates. (503v plates).

Thanks in advance!

Mark
