Chassis/layout question

Post by Tdale »

I got a Weber PT for my Dumble project, and didn't know before it was too late, that it is the type that requires a hole in the chassis to drop into.

This means that I won't have the same space for components that I would have if the PT was mouted outside the chassis.

Has anyone of you used a PT like this before? I guess I could place it close to the AC inlet, and place the power supply close the the front of the chassis...

Shouldn't be a problem if your chassis is long enough. Most Dumble pics I've seen mount the PT through the chassis. If you've got a 19" x 8" chassis, just study the pics that are on this forum. If it's smaller, you may have to get creative about where you mount your caps. (Maybe stack them, Trainwreck style.) You can also gain some space by using Illinois caps instead of Spragues.

I am doing the same thing on my current project. I just got some 1" 8-32 aluminum hex spacers (I use 3/4" for the turret board) and put it on stilts. You can't find long enough replacement bolts at the usual hardware store so use threaded rod and double-bolt the top. One warning, those spacers aren't threaded very accurately and neither are the rods. Cut the rods extra long, grind the end and crank it in a vise to put the spacer on. Cut off the mangled part, grind that end and then put it in the trannie.

I was going to just mill some aluminum plate but the bell housing is very close to the bolts.

PS If this is a combo, double check your speaker clearance.

Oh yeah, you can also flip it on edge. Any hardware store will sell "L" or right angle brackets for making gates, shelves, etc. I didn't do this because the bolts are so close to the bell that the holes would be right on the edge of the steel. sh
