The Uncommon clone

Post by roknroll »

I built this in to a 1967 YBA-1 about a year ago. I was never happy with the way it sounded because it never had the real Dumble tone. But it did have a good tone of it's own that is "entering the Dumble ballpark".
Recorded with a 1995 Hamer Studio WCR Crossroads pups through a 4-12 Marshall slant. I think it was a HRM version.
Actually what I realized is the live in the room sound was not appealing to me but somehow recorded it was good. Some post delay/reverb added.
finger player, no pick.

I hear what you're saying, it's close but not quite there. The attack is too in your face and the OD doesn't quite get into the "Singing" mode you expect from a Dumble.

How about you post the schematic you used and the ears here can help out.

That amp will be great for a Dumble - the output iron is nice and beefy.

I've got a YBA-2B Bassmate that I absolutely love. Same tonestack as a Dr. Z Route 66, but with a 12AX7 in the pre and a pair of EL84's.

It doesn't exist anymore. After a year of tweaking I through in the towel. One of these days I will go at it again.
It started as a REV A, went to HRM, and a few in between. tweak, tweak, tweak said the Dumblebird.
When I go at it again I will humbly ask for help.
Thanks for what you have posted
