Austin amp show

Post by txbluesboy »

I just got back home from the Austin show. It was a blast!! Got to hear lots of amazing amps and try out lots of different speakers. Finally got to meet some Amp garage people and put a face to the avatars. Met dartanion and Ron Worley, dartanions tonic amps are fantastic! Finally met Brandon and got to hear some great Bludos' WOW. I even got Brandon to come to my room where I had snuck in my attempt at an SSS and got him to play it. OMG he seemed to like it! I left there with my head twice as large as I arrived. :D

Can't believe this show happened right in my own back yard and I didn't know anything about it!

Apparently a lot of people didn't know about it. I mentioned it in the garage talk section last week, guess I should have put it here too. It's fun to be able to have your way with a bunch of great amps.

From what I gather the turnout was not that good for this show.

Not sure for the reason why since Austin is known as the live music capital.

Perhaps the advertising wasn't good enough.

I just need to check the Garage Talk section more often. I'm guilty of pretty much just hangin' here in the D section. I'm probably missing all kinds of good stuff.

There was a thread at TGP that Loni responded to saying that he doesn't want huge crowds because then the serious buyers will have a hard time kicking the tires so to speak.
Then I read another post by him that said he may not put another one on in Austin due to poor turnout.

So which is it Loni?

Did you happen to check out Austin Speaker Works and get to hear any of their speakers? There is a little buzz going around about how good they sound in D style amps.

I wanted to check out Austin speaker works, but everytime I went by the room the door was locked. I didn't know the secret knock I guess!

I did however get in the Jensen room, I heard, liked and bought a couple of Falcons. I also checked out all the speakers in the WGS room and fell in love with and bought an Alnico 15 inch, They said its a 15 inch speaker with a special cone and motor from a 12 inch Alnico speaker. Real nice sparkle in a 15. There was a speaker in their room that they make that had a two-rock label on it.

Apparently Reinhardt amps has speakers made to their specs from WGS.

When WGS first started out on ebay I bought a V30 and CL80 for around $22 each plus shipping. :D
There was some rumors about them using Celestian parts for their speakers, like cones and other pieces, I don't think anybody other than a select few ever found out the truth on that.

But I used those two speakers for several years with no problem.
They actually sounded pretty good together in a 2 x 12.

I wish now that I would have bought a bus load.
