Dumble Clean Sound ??

Post by fiddler59 »

I hear a lot of talk about the Dumble overdrive sound, I would like to hear
talk about how the Dumble sounds in the clean channel especially how it compares to fender blackface clean sounds.
Thnx,
David

I prefer Dumble clean to Fender clean. I think it has a bit more midrange bite without sounding Marshally. Here's a clip from Jason Barker's site with a few seconds of clean Dumble tone in the intro:

And here's a short clip I did that shows a bit of the sparkle my clone has. (Sorry, it was quick and dirty, but hopefully you'll get the idea.)

I like to be able to get clean, I mean clean, that first example doesn't sound clean to me (could be the recording or whatever, hard to say)
The second clip sounds fine to me (nice stuff Norm).
For me it can be hard to discribe Dumble clean. Of course the heritage is "blackface" Fender, but perfected in many ways. Yes more sparkle, plenty of mid in the right way, not that nasal midrange (I love it for jazz). Smooth tight lows. 8)
