Thanks, bro!
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Gary,
Can you describe the impact that the different bleeder values make in the amp?

Thanks,
Michael
The bleeders have an effect on the touch of the amp. The classic rule of thumb in power supply design is 1K resistance per volt of supply (ie 440K for a 440V supply). Going smaller helps to regulate the supply a bit better and makes it tighter and going larger (say 470K for each balancing resistor) will loosen up the supply regulation and add some squish to the touch of the amp.

Let your ears decide.

Gary
Interesting, thanks Gary.
Is the 440v in your example the B+ on the plates of the power tubes or before the rectifier?

How did HAD arrive at 270K for #124?
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

Yes, the 440V would be the loaded supply voltage.

270K on #124. Seems he liked that value and it was probably what was on hand :).

I have used all radials on a few amps with no ill effects. One of them is going on 3 years played daily. Can't comment on how they affect the sound as I have not done the science but every clip I have posted on this forum was from an amp with the precision PS and radial caps although some amps had a choke or different dropping resistor values but all the balance resistors were the same (220k on the bigguns) and 470K on the littluns.
