Small Cab Design

I'm building a combo for my grandson. I tried to make it small with a 10" speaker. It really sounds much better with a 12" (of course), so I wanted to make room for a 12 in too small a cab, I'm trying to avoid a boxy sound that can result, and am thinking if I minimize parallel walls, and a larger open back it may work. So this experimental cab has a sloped baffle and the rear panels are angled with irregular edges in hopes of a less boxy sound. Has anyone found a way to get better sound from too small a cabinet you'd care to share?

That's an interesting project. Maybe a closed back, ported design like a Raezer's Edge Stealth 12? It's already so tight though. Depends a lot on personal preference. I've got some little Emery Sound cabs that sound really good, and they're just wide open in the back. Who need's back panels? If it was me, I'd probably load it up and play with cardboard and masking tape for a day or two just to try different ideas.

I'm not familiar with Razors Edge. I want some type of back panels to stiffen up the box structure
Yeah, it's too small for a closed back, and a ported design will likely have response irregularities. Especially if I try to retrofit at this point. I think it's gotta be open back, being half inch panels with minimal bracing. I'm just concerned the volume is so small with a 12 shoe horned in there. I'll know after routing, tolexing, and assembly. I'll have to load some sound clips. I'll be using a Weber C12N. Currently I have the chassis feeding the Fane A60 in my personal amp, which sounds glorious! I hope the Weber isn't too much of a tone shift as I don't want to mod the circuitry further.

Finishing this up (piping and grill work). The grandson is stoked. I'll post some sound clips.

Wax and polish and I'll call this
Too late to annoy the neighbors, so sound clips tomo.
Hands swollen from post hole digging, clips postphoned.
