Hi guys,

I plan on building a headcab for my newest D-Style amp and thought it would be cool to cover it in suede.
Now the prices of genuine suede are a bit too much, so I'd rather use faux suede / alcantara. It's made of polyester with a cotton webbing back, much like tolex.
Has anyone experience with such stuff, is it any good?

Well, in the meantime I ordered some samples and tried it:
Just forget it! It is faux and looks like it, no matter what.
Especially on the corners the fabric beneath shows through.
And it's a major pita to work with, you got to be really careful not to get any glue on the surface.
I'll stick to standard tolex for now.

Thanks, but I'm in Germany across the pond. There are plenty of sued sources here, but it's expensive (and rightly so) so I'm gonna stick to tolex for now

gotta be carefull with that glue...

I just hpoe I save some folks the waste of time and money with faux suede...
