Trainwreck Express Speakers G12M

Post by Littlewyan »

Has anyone ever used 2 x G12Ms with an Express? As they're only 25W I'm not sure if they'll handle the power of the amp. I know a Marshall 50W is usually more like 60-70W when dimed.

Currently have G12T-75s in a 2x12s but I don't think they're doing it for me. I like tight bass with pronounced mids and highs.

You could be pushing two G12Ms with an Express that's a good way up on the volume knob. I'd guess you'd be alright if you don't go nuts and it'd be even safer with a little attenuation, given that you have one. I think those are the speakers. Just listen to Glen... :D

Edit: The new Creamback M speakers are rated at 65w a piece FWIW.

I think the generally consensus is that the modern G12M25s are perhaps a bit harsh and fizzy compared to the ol' classics.
I use a 2x12 of the creambacks for my 'pool and I imagine that is closer to the tone the cool kids are using with their vintage speakers. 130W watt cab can become pretty handy for a lot more of my amps too!

Hmm yer I think it'll have to be the Creambacks. Altho as I hardly do gigs I don't know if I can justify £160 for new speakers :( doubt I'd get more than £40 for my G12T-75s. Its just I play chords on the E String they're not tight and when I play G I don't get that nice sweet midrange from my current speakers. Have to keep an eye out for 2nd hand ones or find a cheaper speaker. Or sometimes I've found you can buy cabs with them already in for less than buying two speakers.

Edit: Actually £190 for the pair!!!! Anyone fancy swapping? :)

I'm not sure what overseas shipping costs would be, but I believe the 65 watt Weber Legacy Series would be in the same idea as these vintage type Ms.

I have an Eminence Private Jack... wonder if it is similar to the GB128. I found the PJ to be overly bright compared to any speaker I've ever had. I relegated it into the Leslie 125 for my parent's Hammond. Seems like a good fit there since it seems to make up for that Leslie's lack of a horn.

From what I've read the GB12 is a bit tighter than the Private Jack and has a slightly softer high end. Bit like a broken in Greenback I guess. Listened to the clips on Eminence's site and the GB12 is definitely tighter. Now lucky for me someone did a clip on youtube of a comparison between G12T-75s and GB12s :D

Well I received my two GB128s today, only played through them for half an hour in the bedroom but I can definitely hear more midrange. They seem to have the same amount of bass as the G12T-75s but bit tighter and with the high end rolled off. Through my Marshall 1987 there is a massive difference, it actually sounds like a Marshall! Unfortunately I can only test them in my bedroom at the moment which is quite small and cramped so I probably won't get the full picture until I take them to band practice. But its looking good so far!

Edit: I should add that the TW clean tone improved a LOT with the new speakers, so much clearer. I also didn't have all of the screws in the back panel as I'm rewiring the cab later so the bass may improve.
