Is this a viable solution for cutting tolex? I thought this might be a good way to cut the same parts over and over and maximize my yield per yard of tolex.
Thoughts?

I use a razor knife with a good new blade, corners its nice to have a good craft knife staple, you know the Dr.knife.Other than that you should be ok.What was your idea?
,I don't see it here.Another trick to use all your pcs. Is to put grooved string joints.this lets some of the smaller pieces for sides and the larger for top and bottom.Anyway hope this may help,Mickey

You mean pre-cutting Tolex before applying it to the cabinet?
Saves time, but in a high volume application, where you make lots of any given model.
Mesa Boogie does it, but they use a giant "cookie cutter" die.
It also demands a non-Tolex-stretching glue, so no solvent based contact cement for you.
They use hot "hide" glue applied with a Potdevin machine, water based spray-on will work also.
Too complex for home use.
Plus I have doubts on the precision.

I was thinking about just rough cutting it on the machine so you get the best yield out of a yard of vinyl.

I think there is a video of how they do it in the Peavey factory, maybe on youtube. Search for it. Maybe you will be able to gather something useful from it.
Here's the one from Mesa

Mesa is too high end. As I recall, Peavey uses more hand work.
